Creekside Elementary Celebrates the US Flag & The US Military Branches
Students Learn the Meaning and Importance of the US Flag and Military Flags
By: Angie Franks & Leilani Camden (Administration Creekside Elementary School)
Creekside Elementary School celebrated both our military children and our United States Flag by dedicating a Flag Wall with the United States Flag being the central and most important as well as our Military Flags, one to represent each of the branches of our military, being hung lower and smaller beside our wonderful stars and stripes that represent the United States of America.
The United States Flag has always been a symbol that has been hung in our school classrooms, hallways, and in the front of our School Buildings. It stands as a representation of the unity of our school culture and how it reflects the diverse cultures that enter our school buildings each day. We are able to celebrate the ability for everyone to have dreams that can become a reality in this great country.
As Adrian Cronouer quotes, “Martin Luther King, Jr. didn't carry just a piece of cloth to symbolize his belief in racial equality; he carried the American flag.” Martin Luther King summed all this up in his famous statement, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
Celebrating our flag is a part of the Creekside culture. We begin each day with the Pledge of Allegiance. Once a year we also have a Red, White, and Blue Spirit Day where everyone is able to dress in the colors that represent our country and our freedoms. Our flag is a reminder of the fact that we are all united and must be treated with equity regardless of race, nationality, religion, or our chosen way of life.
