Board of Education Approves New Administrative Leaders for 2021-2022 School Year

 

New Bern, NC- At the May 20, 2021, Board of Education Meeting, the Board of Education approved the following administrative changes for the upcoming school year effective July1, 2021:

 

  • Eleanor Patrick will serve as the New Director of Exceptional Children’s Program replacing Mrs. Lynn Hardison upon her retirement. Dr. Patrick began her career with Craven County Schools as an educator at James W. Smith Elementary. She taught in the classroom for six years before she decided she was interested in growing as a leader. She served as an assistant principal at Ben D. Quinn Elementary, James W. Smith Elementary, and Trent Park Elementary before transitioning into the role of principal at Trent Park Elementary and then at her current school, Oaks Road Academy. Dr. Patrick has been selected as the Craven County Schools Principal of the Year for two terms, once in 2015 and as the most recent in 2020. Dr. Patrick shares, “As a nearly lifelong resident of Craven County I am very dedicated to the Craven County School system and community. I am looking forward to serving the students, staff, and families of Craven County in a new way.  My goal is to work together with staff members and parents to meet our students' needs and to ensure their success.”

 

  • Suzanne Averitt will transition into the role of Principal at Oaks Road Academy. Ms. Averitt began her career with Craven County Schools 23 years ago. During her career she has filled many positions including teacher assistant, teacher, AIG coordinator, instructional coach and currently as the assistant principal at Arthur W. Edwards Elementary School. Ms. Averitt adds, “I have enjoyed every one of these positions but working with students, teachers, and families is the most rewarding experience I’ve ever had. I am excited to become a member of the Oaks Road Academy family and make my new home in the Owls’ Nest. “

 

  • Montrell Lee, Principal at Grover C. Fields Middle School will move back to West Craven High as the school principal filling the vacancy created when Mr. Tabari Wallace resigned to work with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Mr. Lee served 6 years as physical education teacher at West Craven Middle School while coaching football, basketball, soccer, and track before transitioning into the assistant principal at West Craven High School from 2014 through 2020. While this was a difficult decision for Mr. Lee he shares, “I want to thank the students, staff, parents, and community of Grover C. Fields for allowing me to love, learn, and serve you during this unprecedented time. I will miss you greatly, but I am excited to see the great things Mrs. Kaitlyn Watson and Grover C. Fields Middle School will do. I am extremely humbled and excited to have the opportunity to serve as principal of West Craven High School! I look forward to building relationships with the students, staff, and community while loving, learning, and serving this great place that is rich in tradition and pride. Eagle Nation! Ride or Fly!"

 

  • Kaitlyn Watson, Assistant Principal at Grover C. Fields will serve as the Principal at Grover C. Fields Middle School. Mrs. Watson began her journey with Craven County Schools in 2014 as an English Language Arts teacher at H.J. MacDonald Middle School. After receiving her Masters in School Administration from East Carolina University, she served as the Assistant Principal at Havelock High School and most recently at Grover C. Fields Middle School. Mrs. Watson contributes, “I am so excited and honored to serve as the Principal of Grover C. Fields Middle School. In the two years that I have worked in Grizzly Nation, I have seen the unwavering commitment of our staff and community to the students of Grover C. Fields. This school is a special place and I hope to lead and learn alongside this team for many years to come. I am invested and committed to providing our students with the highest quality of education available. There is no better place to be than Grover C.! Go be great, Grizzlies!”

 

  • Nannette Walston-Moore, School Learning Systems Coach at West Craven Middle will move into a leadership position at Havelock High School as the Assistant Principal. Mrs. Walston dedicated nine years of her career as a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher and also contributed her skills in various support positions at West Craven Middle as AVID Coordinator, a member of the Community Goal Team on the School Improvement Team, and the coach for Cheer, Women’s Basketball, and Boys and Girls Track. Mrs. Walston-Moore is excited to join the Ram Family and adds, “I am most excited about learning and growing as a leader under wonderful leadership. I also look forward to working with the teachers, students and the community to ensure the success of our students.”

 

  • Maegan Harrison, Teacher at Havelock High School has been approved to serve as an Assistant Principal at a location not yet determined. Mrs. Harrison taught the first four years of her career at Northside High School in Pinetown, NC, before transferring to Washington High School for a year while her husband finished graduate school. She transferred to Havelock High School for the 2018 school year and has found such a great home here in Craven County. Mrs. Harrison states, “I am most looking forward to advocating for and serving a group of teachers and students in a new role; supporting teachers and providing a space for them to feel supported is the most important thing to me.”
