Mrs. Porter is a NC native and veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. After her military service, she earned her BFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA and became a technical illustrator for the children's company, KiwiCo. She is currently enrolled in the Master of Art in Teaching - Art Education program at UNCW. In her free time, she loves to garden, raise Monarch butterflies and shares her love of nature with children and their grownups through her small business Treehouse Makerspace and her free kids magazine, Treehouse. She currently lives in Stella, NC with her husband Brian, who is active duty Coast Guard. They have two daughters together, Quinn and Katherine - and a wiley golden retriever named Dandelion. Mrs. Porter is very excited to begin her journey as the art teacher at Havelock Middle School.
