Mrs. Blair Dyal

My Background:
I am a graduate of Craven County Schools and proud to be back here teaching and guiding our future generations.  This is my 15th year in the public school system and my 11th year teaching band.  I have also taught 4th and 5th grade general music and K-5 general music.  In between teaching in the public schools, I spent four years as an administrator for Excel Learning Centers.  All of these varied experiences have given me different perspectives on education and the needs of students.  I hope that you will continue to see my passion for education, and for teaching a love of music, as I serve in this community!

I am a member of the NC Music Educators Association and the NC Bandmasters.  In the Eastern District, I serve on the executive board as the Middle School All-District Auditions Chair. I recently completed my Master's Degree in Music Education at East Carolina University and received my National Board Teaching Certification in 2023 as well.  It's been a busy but rewarding few years working on these professional goals!

My family:
I am married to my husband Ohmer, who is a retired Navy Medical Corpsman.  My father has also retired from the Navy where he served as a religious program specialist, so the military lifestyle is one I am very familiar with!  I have four children; Sarah, Jacob, Hunter and Catherine.  Hunter and Sarah are both in college pursuing their dreams, and Jacob and Catherine are high school sophomores.  These four are my constant reminders of why educators must be advocates for all students in the education system.  There is nothing that I love more than family time whenever we can squeeze it in between everyone's very busy schedules! We have two dogs, Zoe and Maverick, who keep us on our toes!

My interests:
When I have a few free minutes you will usually find me reading!  I love to read all types of books, especially historical fiction.  Swimming and camping are favorite sporting activities of mine, and I enjoy watching athletic events and traveling to new places.  Above all else, I love to be with my children and spending time with them traveling and exploring new places.
