Hello New Bern High School! 

My name is Makenzie D. Lewis, and I will be teaching American History!

I am a graduate of New Bern High School (Class of 2015) and I am super excited to be back as a History Teacher. 

This is my third official year in the classroom and my first year at New Bern High School. I began my career in Education as a Long Term Substitute Teacher teaching ELA and Social Studies at Grover C Fields Middle School. During this time, I completed a degree in Pedagogy Studies in History and Literature along with a Minor in History through the University Studies Program at East Carolina University. As of this Fall, I will be starting the Teacher Residency Program at East Carolina University to complete my History Education License for grades 6 through 12.

Fun Facts

I currently live with my husband Aaron (another graduate of New Bern High School), our two chihuahuas, three ferrets, and a bearded dragon. 

I love chocolate, Starbucks, Anime, and Magic the Gathering. 

My favorite period in History is tied between The Victorian Era and the Greco-Roman Period. 

Had I not pursued my love of the Teaching Profession I would have become a Shipwreck Archaeologist.
