Mrs. Heather Berkey

Hello! 👋🏻

My name is Heather Berkey and I am a 3rd grade teacher at Vanceboro Farm Life Elementary School. I love 3rd grade because there is a shift that takes place from mastering basic skills to moving towards learning new complex skills. 3rd grade is an important time to develop roots for skills that will only continue to be developed in later grades. I fully understand the importance of my work and am committed to the students who walk into my classroom and to the families that are supporting them. I also love Vanceboro Farm Life. The people who work within the school always strive to provide a place so that children feel valued. It feels amazing to work with individuals that have the same passion in fostering the growth and development of children.

I have two amazing children and a wonderful husband who has been my best friend for more than fifteen years. Building this family has given me my two favorite job titles of all, a wife and a mother! I have learned firsthand what values should be present in a classroom being an advocate for my children. A classroom should have a positive atmosphere. I would only expect to send my children to school in environments that are conducive to their well-being. I also believe a classroom should have procedures and systems. Having procedures in place helps to shift through the many routines that take place in a classroom daily. My favorite motto is Every Moment Counts. I take this as a vow to be a role model at all times and also to understand the fragility of time with each other. I am passionate about inspiring children to become the best versions of themselves and fulfilling their dreams.

I attended East Carolina University, where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (K-6) with a concentration in Reading (K-12). I am a proud ECU alumni and thankful that I was able to go after my dream to become a teacher. I have a concentration in reading but I also have a great love for math! I always strive to find projects in the classroom because I love hands-on learning!
