• The 2021-2023 School Improvement plans for Craven County Schools are aligned to the Craven County Schools Strategic Plan and the goals, indicators, and key strategies.  The five district priorities and their associated goals and key strategies are:

    • Goal 1: The Learner: Craven County Schools learners will be curious and inquisitive problem solvers who respect diversity and take ownership of their learning.
      • Measure: 100% of schools will make progress toward earning a School Performance Grade of A or B by the State of North Carolina.
        • All schools will increase school performance grades by improving grade level proficiency and exceeding growth in reading.
          • Grades 3-8 to 65.5%
          • English II to 70.9%
        • All students will read on or above grade level and third graders will read at a minimum of a 725 lexile.
        • All schools will increase school performance grades and the percentage of students successfully completing Math III by improving grade level proficiency in math:
          • Grades 3-8 to 62.3%
          • Math I to 51.2%
          • Math III to 47.7%
        • All schools will increase school performance grades by improving grade level proficiency in science:
          • Grade 5 to 79.8%
          • Grade 8 to 81.9%
          • Biology to 72.5%
        • All high schools will graduate students college and career ready by improving the 4 year cohort rate to or above 94.2% and improve the ACT/ACT WorkKeys assessment indicator to 86.7% by 2026-2027.
    • Goal 2: The Educator: Craven County Schools will prepare our students for a successful future by attracting, supporting, and retaining a professional, diverse, and agile team of educators.
      • Measure: All schools will decrease teacher turnover (attrition + mobility) to the state rate of 13.3% (State Attrition + Mobility for 2018-2019) or lower.
    • Goal 3: Teaching and Learning: Craven County Schools will provide educators with the resources and tools to improve academic and social emotional outcomes for all students.
      • Measure: 100% of schools will use Professional Learning Communities to:
        • Monitor the use of district pacing guides and curricular documents
        • Ensure the fidelity of implementation of district curriculums
        • Develop standards aligned units of instruction for each subject area/grade level
        • Analyze student data to drive instruction
    • Goal 4: Community Engagement and Leadership: Craven County Schools will develop and continuously improve a two-way listening and learning system that informs and educates students, parents, staff and community members about the key work of our school system.
      • Measure: 100% of schools will implement strategies to inform students, parents and community members of the important things happening in their schools.
        • Each school will utilize a listening system to prioritize valid stakeholder feedback into action steps resulting in a customer service rating of 80% or higher.
    • Goal 5: Operations and Resources: Craven County Schools will use a Systems Approach to Performance Excellence to demonstrate or exceed proficiency at all levels of the organization.
      • Measure: Once trained, all classrooms will implement with fidelity, classroom learning systems that engage students in their learning.
      • 100% of all schools will meet federal, state and local safety standards to ensure a safe and inviting learning environment for all staff, students, and parents.
