Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. JoAnna Blanton
I am JoAnna Blanton and I am so excited to be teaching 4th grade at Ben D. Quinn this year. I am from Denver, Colorado. I served 8 years in the Navy as a corpsman. While I was in the Navy I got stationed at Camp Lejeune and met my wonderful husband, Dustin Blanton. We had three wonderful children and settled in New Bern after both of our enlistments were complete. My own children have been going to Ben Quinn most of their lives and I have always loved the warm and inviting atmosphere and friendly faces. I graduated from East Carolina University with honors and then started my teaching career by teaching 5th grade at Brinson Memorial. I am very excited to be teaching 4th grade this year! My teaching philosophy is developed on a sense of citizenship. I believe that I am not only producing future high school graduates and college-ready students, but also the next generation of American citizens. I have a strong foundation of civic duty and community that I weave into every aspect of my classroom. I teach with enthusiasm, but at the same time, I am able to maintain the level of structure, routine, discipline, and consequences that I think children thrive on. Students and classroom communities thrive when everyone knows the expectations and is aware of the consequences for not meeting the agreed upon expectations. I look forward to serving this community for many years to come!
