Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! This year I will be one of the 4th grade teachers here at J.T. Barber Elementary. I am looking forward to working with your children and now my children, too!
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Barbara Walton. I have been teaching for seventeen years. I graduated in 1996 from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education. I received my Master's Degree in Education from Ashford University with a concentration in Early Childhood in the spring of 2011. I’ve wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember so this is my dream job! I love my job and hope to pass my love for learning on to my students. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the Craven County School District teaching staff.
I live in Havelock. I am married to my husband Joseph, who is a minister. I have one son, Chris who is a barber and one daughter, Chervon who is also a teacher in the Craven County School System. I am also raising my 15 years old grandson, Chris, who keeps me on my toes! In addition, to Chris I have three other grandchildren (Jeanna, Jillian, and Cameron), whom I also adore.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, shopping, and spending time with my family and friends.
I am looking forward to working with your children and now my children, too!
Promise to give your best.
It is common practice for us to ask students to give their best, be their best, demonstrate self-respect, and value learning. In a warm, welcoming classroom, however, teachers can also promise to give students their best. This can be as simple as, “I will work hard for you. I will push you to learn. I will require your best, and I will give you my best.”
