Ms. Deborah Roll
I began teaching when I decided to homeschool my 4 children. I taught them and other homeschool families science for 6 years. At one point, I felt my older two would benefit from the high school experience and I needed to work to earn money for college tuitions for 4 children! My youngest son's science teacher asked if I had ever thought about teaching public school and I decided to apply to the same school my middle school children were at. I accepted the position and taught at this school for 14 years. Because my only degree was in Biology, I took education classes for the next several years to complete my education certification. I was approached about getting my Masters and I accepted the opportunity. I received my Masters in Science Education in 2008. The next year I decided to work towards my National Board Certification- a certification that only about 5 percent of teachers in the US have. I received this certification in 2011.
I did all of this advanced work to make sure you understand that I take your child's education seriously. I hold high expectations for myself and I do the same for my students. I think all children have a talent that they may or may not know they possess. I plan to help them discover what those talents are. I like to have fun in the classroom! I don't like a lot of worksheets. I like raps to help students learn and games to help them show what they know. If there is anything I can ever do to help your student be successful, I am more than happy to do it.
Note: for the 2019-2020 school year, all 8th grade students do not work on teams.
