Professional development is an intensive and collaborative means to learning to earn or incorporatively maintain professional credentials such as academic degrees to formal coursework, conferences and informal learning opportunities situated in practice.
Prior approval is necessary to comply with state regulations, which require an LEA to determine the appropriateness of awarding renewal credit for a specific activity in advance of the activity. Prior approvals also help avoid misunderstandings regarding qualifying activities and reduce the possibility of an employee paying to enroll in an activity for which renewal credit will not be awarded.
Trainings, conferences, and/or professional development that occur outside of our district require prior approval for CEU credit. To request prior-approval, SeaSystem Coordinators in each building/department will need to complete an Out-of-District Proposal via SEASystem. Ideally, requests are should be made three (3) weeks prior to the start date of activity. Failure to do so may prevent participants from receiving credit. Requests submitted after the event risk not being approved.
Upon successful completion of an activity, the employee should submit proof of credit (e.g., certificate, agenda, etc...) with the Sea System proposal to Melody Howell. Credit will not be recorded until the appropriate documentation is submitted.
Prior approval is also required for any online modules, college courses, and/or independent studies that an employee wishes to count towards their license. In order to do this, employees will need to complete the Course/Independent Studies Request. Depending on the context, the Professional Development Coordinator may require additional information (e.g., course syllabus).
After completing the course, the participant will need to submit the appropriate documentation (e.g., grade slip, certificate, etc.) to Melody Howell in order to have CEU’s posted.
