Bachelor of English degree from VA Tech Secondary English certification (6-12) from South Carolina State

Ms. Carol Wasicki

Hello! I have been teaching ELA for 10 years and have taught grades 6-10. However, I am certified to teach grades 6-12. I am originally from Richmond, Va and am a graduate of VA Tech with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Go Hokies!!! I received my ELA secondary teacher certification from South Carolina State University. Last school year I earned my certification in teaching AIG. I have lived in North Carolina since 1988 and in New Bern for over 22 years. During this time, I substituted and tutored for Craven County Schools and "worked" as a stay-at-home mom with my three children. I have also taught all ELA middle school grades at Saint Paul's Catholic School in New Bern and 9th and 10th ELA at Goochland High School in Virginia. My oldest daughter is an Elementary teacher here in Craven County. My older daughter, younger daughter, and son all graduated from HJM and New Bern High School. So I have lots of "War Cub" and "Bear" pride!

This is my seventh year teaching at H.J. MacDonald. I currently teach 8th grade ELA. Five years ago, all three winners of the Rotary Club Essay Contest were my students! Last year the top winner was in one of my classes. My first year here, two of my students were published in the Twin Rivers Reading Council Young Author's Essay Contest. Reading and writing are passions of mine, as are children. I am active in the community - especially with special needs children in the YMCA, Easter Seals and local parks and recreation. I love teaching children and inspiriting them to become the best communicators and people they can be. Thank you for trusting me with your children. I will strive to give them the tools they need to successfully navigate the road ahead to the brightest future imaginable.
