Hello Y'all,

My name is Jason Thomas and I've been teaching in Craven County for about 11 years.  Prior to being here at HJ I taught at West Craven Middle and Grover C. Fields.   I was born and raised in New Bern.  I have a Bachelor's in Sociology from UNC - Greensboro and recieved my Teaching Licensure from East Carolina University. Social Studies is my forte.  I've taught 7th grade and 8th grade Social Studies.  Before going into education I was a Detention Officer for the Guilford County Sheriff's Department for a few years.  That job led me to get into teaching. I really want to help kids to avoid making mistakes that could cost them a lot later on not just teach Social Studies.  I'm excited about being at HJ.  Not going to lie though I went to Grover C. Fields as a kid so it is neat teaching at the rival school. 

In this Course of 7th grade Social Studies we will be looking at the World from pretty much 1400 CE to the Modern World.   We will also recap a bit from what was learned last year in 6th grade as well.   I plan on also showing the students how not just to "google" for answers but actually use databases, MLA format to be able to cite where they get their information.   I'm striving to get rid of students thinking that copying and pasting from the internet is okay.  Anyway, enough of my rant.  I do enjoy life outside of the classroom.  Right now, I'm working on getting healthy by going to the gym and rucking.  Frisbee Golf is another activity I enjoy.  Not going to front, I'm a big nerd.  I belong to a Middle Ages reenactment group called the Society of Creative Anarchonism.  Pretty much I wear medieval armor and fight my friends.
