Mrs. Brooke Powers

I was born in New Bern and attended Ben D. Quinn Elementary, Grover C. Fields Middle, New Bern High and East Carolina University. I lived in the same house from the day I came home from the hospital until I left for college in 2004. I love New Bern, but when I was looking to buy a house in 2010 I fell in love with a house in Grifton, so I have "left" New Bern and currently live in Grifton. I drive 40-50 minutes to and from work every day, but I love each day here at Creekside Elementary, the students and staff make each day wonderful.  I have the best husband and son I could ask for.  We enjoy spending time together with family and friends.

I realized I wanted to be a teacher in Kindergarten. My teacher was Mrs. Fox and I adored her!! She was so loving and kind and always made learning fun. I have never wanted to do anything else but teach. I have only had one job that I did not work with children and that was working in the front office at Ben D. Quinn in High School. In college, I babysat the same two girls from my freshman year to my senior year until I had to complete my internship. I did my internship at Wintergreen Primary with Mrs. Atcheson in Kindergarten, and I loved it. I taught kindergarten at J.T. Barber for 2 years and this is my 10th year in second grade at Creekside. Each year has been a wonderful learning experience and I can not wait to learn with my kids this year. I am so proud to be a part of the Creekside family!

I love country music, summers at the beach and spending time with family and friends. I cry when I watch sad TV shows but not sad movies. I love high heels but never wear them. I can't cook many things but what I can cook comes out pretty good. I want to travel the world but I love being home. I am a mama's girl and she was a teacher too. My sister is the total opposite of me. She has red hair, blue eyes and a completely different personality. My family LOVES DUKE BASKETBALL!!!!! I would love to meet Coach K. I think most people learn the rules they should live by in kindergarten. Don't steal, be honest, do your own work, try your hardest, be a good friend, use kind words, help others in need and if you want it, you need to work for it and if you don't succeed try again.
