Mrs. Martha Ann Patterson

Hello!  My name is Martha Ann Patterson and I am a first grade teacher at AH Bangert.  For twenty years, I have been a Title I Reading Interventionist at Bangert but this year, I will be a first grade teacher.  I am very excited about having a group of first graders and creating an environment of trust and learning in our class.  My goal is to help my first graders develop a love for reading that will last a lifetime!  I LOVE MY JOB and think I am the luckiest person to be able to work with such a wonderful staff and to teach some of the greatest children in the world. There is no place that I'd rather be than at Bangert Elementary.

I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bacheor of Science in Elementary Education and received a Masters of Science in Early Childhood Education from Old Dominion University. My husband and I have a daughter who is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and a son who is a graduate of Duke University.  We are most definitely a House Divided and of course, my favorite color is any shade of BLUE!  Both Robbie and Charlotte attended AH Bangert Elementary, HJ MacDonald Middle School and graduated from New Bern High School-GO BEARS!! We also have a very special yellow labrador retriever whose name is Ellie. She is a great pet and keeps us very busy.  In my free time I enjoy reading, boating, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Although this school year is beginning in a different way than we usually begin and there are many unknowns, I am committed to making this one of the best school years ever for your first grader.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or questions.  My email is and the phone number for Bangert is (252) 514-5415.

Thank you for allowing me to teach your child!  It's going to be a great year!
