Eligibility: Students must be atleast 14 and 1/2 years of age to be eligible to take the driver's education class.

Students will meet with an instructor online every day during the time that the class is being offered. Students who sign up for this class will need to commit to a set day and time to meet with the instructor every day and to do the assigned work in a timely manner.  Time is TBD and will be sent out through email. The state requires 30 hours for the classroom part of this course.
Please note: Due to Covid-19, there is a backlog of driving. However, we are well on our way towards catching up. We will make every effort to complete the behind the wheel portion of class as soon as possible for your students. Please give us up to 6 weeks after you finish the classroom portion of the class. It very well may not take that long, but if you have not heard from a driving instructor by that time, please contact us. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Cost: The course is $45.00 and must be paid prior to the start of the class. Payments should be made at the front office of NBHS with any checks being made payable to NBHS.  Payment verification will be needed before the first class. You may be eligible for a fee waiver if you qualify for free or reduced lunch status.  If you are eligible for the fee waiver, complete the form and turn it in to the front office. CCS Fee Waiver Form

Eye Check: An official with the DMV will be at New Bern High School on Thursday, May 26th, from 3:30 until 4:30 to administer eye exams. If you took a previous online class and missed the eye check, this is also for you. The eye check will take place rain or shine! The instructors can not take you on the road for the behind the wheel portion of this class until the eye exam is completed on your restricted instruction permit (RIP). If you were mailed the form, please bring the Restricted Instruction Permit with you. You must have this form with you and have all of your information filled out completely (in ink) with your instructor's signature and your parent's signature on it in order for you to get the eye check done. It also needs to be printed on one side of one sheet of paper, not two. The location of the eye exam will be at the carpool area (gym entrance) of NBHS under the covered area at the top of the steps. Masks are optional, but please observe all social distancing protocols. Additional eye exam dates at NBHS are to be announced..
