• Horatio Alger Scholarship

    The Horatio Alger Association provides financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have significant financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. The scholarships are given to deserving students each year and range in award value from $6,000 to $25,000.

    Eligibility criteria include: high school graduation spring 2019; demonstrated critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income); and United States citizenship.

    ACT Student Champion Award

    Applications are open for the ACT Student Champion Award! The ACT Student Champion Award recognizes one student in each state who is tenacious and persistent, no matter the challenge, and is prepared for life after high school with a goal in mind and plan in place. 

    ACT Student Champions receive a $500 non-renewable scholarship, certificate, and state-level recognition. 

    Eligibility:

    • High school seniors who have overcome challenges and can articulate their education and/or career actions 
    • At a minimum students must have a composite ACT score of 22 on a single test date OR a Gold ACT®WorkKeys®National Career Readiness Certificate®

    The United States Senate Youth Scholarship

    THE NEW DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING SENATE YOUTH APPLICATIONS IN N.C. IS OCTOBER 21, 2018!

     

    We realize the unfortunate circumstances which have impacted so many schools and students across North Carolina as a result of Hurricane Florence.    We are also sensitive to the fact that many students have been impacted and may welcome having a bit more time to finalize their entry materials.  Knowing this, we have extended the submission deadline by two weeks.  The deadline is now October 21.  

     

    The United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) is an educational opportunity open to outstanding high school juniors and seniors interested in pursuing careers in public service. The winning students will spend a week in Washington D.C. and receive a $10,000 scholarship.

    Society of Military Engineers Scholarship

    The Coastal Carolina Post, Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) intends to award up to two, four-year college scholarships valued at $2,000 each. These scholarships will be awarded to the most deserving applicants based on academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, and affiliation with SAME. Awards will be made in four equal annual increments. Awards in years two through four will be contingent on the recipient maintaining acceptable performance in their academics (GPA of 3.0 or higher) and extracurricular activities (evidence of continued and additional participation).

    The applicant must submit a completed application by December 3, 2018.

    To be eligible for a scholarship the applicant must meet the following requirements:

    (1) Be a high school senior planning to enroll in an engineering, architectural, or a similar technical field curriculum at an accredited college or university. College enrollment must be planned for the 2019/2020 school year.

    (2) Have a minimum of a B average (3.0 on 4.0 scale).

    (3) Meet at least one of the following: a. Be a dependent of a Coastal Carolina Post SAME member or sustaining member. b. Be sponsored by a Coastal Carolina Post SAME member or sustaining member. Note: If you do not have an SAME Member to sponsor your application, one will be appointed for you.

    (4) Provide a completed application form to include: a copy of high school transcript; a copy of SAT/ACT results; and an approximate 500 word essay.

    (5) Arrange for scholarship application reference forms to be completed by high school advisors, academic instructors, or immediate work supervisors (maximum of 3) for delivery to and received by Mr. Gil Burnet no later than December 3, 2018. 

    After a review by the Education and Mentorship Committee and selections are made, the individuals will be contacted. The winners will be presented the scholarship checks at the January 10, 2019 membership luncheon meeting of the Coastal Carolina SAME Post. Scholarship recipients must attend the January Coastal Carolina SAME Post meeting aboard MCB Camp Lejeune to receive their checks.

    Greenhouse Scholars

    Scholarship is designed for high-performing, under-resourced students who have already demonstrated true leadership and positive community contributions.

    Applicants must also demonstrate a strong interest in and commitment to community, an ability to persevere through difficult circumstances, and excellent leadership skills.

     To be eligible, students must be a graduating senior planning to attend a four-year accredited academic institution; be a US citizen or permanent resident of the US and a legal resident in Colorado, Georgia, North Carolina, or Illinois; have a cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above; and demonstrate financial need (annual household income no greater than $70,000).

    VFW Scholarship


    The VFW is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generation. If you are a democracy-loving high school student interested in a $30,000 college scholarship or a patriotic middle school student interested in winning $5,000, these scholarships may be for you.

    The Foundation for Blended and Online Learning Scholarship Program

    The Foundation for Blended and Online Learning has established a scholarship program to assist current high school seniors who have completed a minimum of five (5) blended or online courses during their last two years of high school and plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

    This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age,  gender, disability, or national origin.

    Applicants of The Foundation for Blended and Online Learning Scholarship Program must:

    • Be high school seniors who have completed a minimum of five (5) blended or online courses during their last two years of high school who will be graduating in the spring or summer of 2019.
    • Demonstrate academic achievement or improvement as a direct result of their enrollment in the blended/online learning curriculum.
    • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-  or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
