There are many resources available to parents of students with Autism.  Teachers and parents need to be aware that students with autism are all unique, even if there are some similarities among all students with autism.  Some tools to use at home and at school:

    • Visuals/visual schedules (students with autism are 10% auditory learners and 90% visual learners)
    • Clear directions
    • Be aware of sensory needs
    • Routines
    • Warnings of changes in routines
    • Checklists
    • An area for a student to take a break if needed

There are many other strategies that can be used and if there is a questions, please feel free to contact the EC Department at your school or the Autism Team at JT Barber Elementary school.  These teams are there for support and help as well as resources and knowledge.  I have also listed some resources that can help.
