Ms. Claudia Casey
My name Claudia Casey and this is my third year as principal of Tucker Creek Middle School. I am originally from Germany and come from a family of educators, with my grandfather serving as principal of Grundschule in the historic town of Passau, Germany. Throughout my travels both in and out of the country, I have come to appreciate the need for students to value diverse perspectives and cultures, and understand how events around the world are interconnected, in order to solve complex problems. I am very passionate about education and value collaborating with the staff and community to provide students with a rigorous, engaging and high quality educational experience. As the parent of two children, Quinn 23, and Reilly 20, I recognize the importance of the home and school connection. Parents are our children’s first teacher and I believe that by working together we can ensure that the emotional, social, and academic needs of our students are met.
I began my career as a Program Director for the American Cancer Society in New Jersey. Upon relocating to eastern North Carolina, I transitioned into the education profession and served as a science teacher at West Craven Middle School for eight years. I left the classroom in 2013 to accept a position as STEM Project Manager for a Department of Defense grant that provided for the installation of STEM labs in several schools within Craven County. A year later, I accepted an opportunity to take on the challenge of school administrator. I served as assistant principal at H.J. MacDonald Middle School for three years. My education experience includes a B. S. Degree in Public Health from Rutgers University, a Master of Arts Degree in Teaching: Middle Grades Science Education from East Carolina University, and an Add-On License for School Administration from University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
I currently live in New Bern and am a parishioner at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. My daughter Reilly attends Clemson University and my son Quinn is a chef at The Plantation in Long Beach Island, New Jersey. When I am not cheering on the Mustangs, I am rooting for the Tigers!
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the Havelock community and look forward to welcoming students and staff to Tucker Creek Middle School for the 2019-2020 school year. Go Mustangs!
