Courtney Merkel began her career in education 15 years ago. She has taught in Joshua Tree, California, and in Craven County. She has had the experience of being a media coordinator and being in the classroom in grades Kindergarten, First, Second, and Fifth grades. For the past three years, she has been an assistant principal at Graham A. Barden Elementary and Havelock Elementary.

 

Mrs. Merkel’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and a Masters in School Administration with a Curriculum and Instruction endorsement from East Carolina University. She was also recognized in 2017 as Craven County’s elementary math teacher of the year. Mrs. Merkel is currently getting her doctorate in education at East Carolina University.

She is happily married to Edward Merkel and has two children. Her son Ryan is a Specialist in the United States Army and her daughter Sarah is a senior at NC State.

 

Mrs. Merkel is looking forward to joining the Roger Bell family again and continuing to serve the Havelock community that she calls home.
