• Welcome to Mrs. Snyder's class!

I look forward to teaching Science this year!

Please sign up for your parent/observer account on Canvas (directions in links below). It is so helpful to be able to see what your child sees! I will post helpful guides here as well.

I hope you and your child have a great school year!

If you have any comments or concerns, please contact me. The best method to contact me is through Canvas. Please sign up using the links below. The next best method is by e-mail. I check my mail at the beginning and end of every school day so I should respond quickly. If you do not hear from me within 24 hours, please call and leave a message. Sometimes e-mail gets kicked into the spam folders by accident.

  • Calendar is one of the most helpful tools for parents and students. You can see all work that has an assigned due date. When you see it crossed through, something has been submitted.

Drawbaks? Announcements, pages, and non-graded discussions do not show up here. But this is the best place to start as you begin to learn the Canvas App!

  • The grade screen is the next most important item for students and  parents. This guide discusses the meaning of each of the symbols on the student grade screen.

If you see total grade calculations they may not match those in Powerschool for various reasons. It is important that the individual assignment grades match between Canvas and Powerschool.

  • About Mrs. Snyder

I went on a journey to become a teacher! I graduated from Virginia Tech with an Animal Science degree and worked as a hog farmer for seven years before having my first child. When she was born, I quit work and became an at-home mother. I have four lovely daughters now and decided to go back to work when the youngest one went to kindergarten. Somewhere along the way I realized I enjoyed teaching. When my youngest daughter went to school, so did I! I went to ECU and completed classes to get my teacher's license. I began teaching at GCF the next fall. This is now my thirteenth year of teaching! Along the way, I added math, social studies and AIG certification. I took a brief trip out of middle school to teach gifted students in elementary school but I found I belonged at GCF. I look forward to working with my middle schoolers and parents so we can have a great year!
