Ms. Crystal Conover
Hi, and welcome to my page!
First of all, I would like to say how excited I am for this school year!
This is my 6th year of teaching, all of which has been here at Creekside Elementary! My first year was in 2nd grade, and this will be my fourth year in 1st grade. I also have a son who will be in 3rd grade here at Creekside!
One thing that you should know about me is that a very important aspect of my room is building classroom community. I want my students to feel as if they are part of a family, and that we can figure out any problem together.
We have 3 rules in our classroom which are the rules throughout the school: Be ready, respectful, and responsible. I have high expectations of my students, because I know they are capable of success! At the beginning of the year we go through the rules and procedures over and over again, so that they know what is expected of them.
As far as discipline, I use positive reinforcement in my room. I will use their behavior as their discipline, and I try not to dwell on the bad behavior. For example, if a child throws something, I will take it away and they can come to me when they are ready to use it correctly. If a student is talking during work time, they will have to be silent during a fun time since they wasted their instructional time disrupting others. They can decide when they are ready to do the right thing. This way they are being held accountable for their behavior and they choose how they are going to make it better. My philosophy is to talk it out, fix it and move on. I do not like a child's whole day to be based on one behavior or "color". That is why I took away the color chart, and it has worked so far!
We use a ticket reward system along with Class Dojo in our class. Students get 5 tickets in the morning, and they are able to get more tickets, or they may lose them for negative behavior. However many tickets they have at the end of the day, thats how many Dojo points they will get. I have a list of rewards for every 10 Dojo points that they get! Schoolwide, we also have a positive behavior incentive system called Croc Cash. This is where anyone in the school can give the students this "Croc Cash" for good behavior at any time and they earn rewards for their classroom. If a students gets a Croc Cash, they will also get a Dojo point!
Another thing I feel that is very important is communication. I try to answer emails, texts, or phone calls as quickly as possible unless it must be lengthy. Then, I will get to it as soon as I have a few minutes. The best way the contact me is through text message (if it is short), the next would be an email. Please do not hesitate if you have any questions or concerns. I want to make you feel as comfortable and confident as possible that your child is in good hands!
I am looking forward to an amazing year! :)
