    Oceans Acrostic Poem

    USE YOUR NOTES! 

    Use the word OCEANS to create an acrostic poem to demonstrate your understanding of vocabulary.

    1. Must use the word OCEANS

    2. Use the following words: Intertidal Zone, Neritic Zone, Oceanic Zone, Benthic Zone, Aphotic, Photic)

    3. Must use a complete sentence for each letter.

    Resources from the Ocean: BDA Reading

    1. Create a before, during, and after reading chart on a piece of paper (see this example)

    2. BEFORE reading about resources we get from the ocean, write down everything you know about the resources we get from the ocean. 

    3. DURING the reading (p. 98-103 in the textbook), write down all that you learn about the resources we get from the oceans.

    4. AFTER reading, write down questions or thoughts you still have. 

    5. Summarize at the bottom what you know now that you didn't know before you read about resources we get from the ocean. 

    6. Answer questions that go along with the reading (turn these in!)

    Ocean Drawing (major grade)

    Part 1 (40 pts):

    Use your notes to draw and label a detailed picture of the ocean and include the following in your drawing: 

    - the intertidal zone (4 pts)

    - upwelling (4 pts)

    - hydrothermal vent (4 pts)

    - continental slope (4 pts)

    - continental shelf (4 pts)

    - two other features of the ocean floor (8 pts)

    - label highest/lowest density, temperature, and salinity (12 pts)

    Part 2 (60 points): 

    Describe the following on a separate sheet of paper and attach to your drawing: 

    - Upwelling: How does it occur? What happens at an upwelling/why is it important? (10 pts)

    - Importance of hydrothermal vents (10 pts)

    - Each of the 4 zones (intertidal, neritic, oceanic, benthic) including: sunlight/temperature, type of life found there, adaptations, food, etc. (40 pts - 10 for each zone)
