Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Sherri Thomas, Principal

I am excited to be entering into my third year as the principal of James W. Smith Elementary School!  Although this year will look quite different, I am confident that it will be an awesome year of blended virtual and hopefully face to face learning.  Since being at JWS, I have witnessed how resilient the parents, staff, students, and community have been through hurricanes (students attending WCHS for a short period of time) and now a pademic.

Education & Experience

I earned my undergraduate and masters degrees from East Carolina University.  I was an assistant principal at Trent Park Elementary for six years.  Before serving as an assistant principal, I taught kindergarten for twelve years at Vanceboro Farm Life Elementary.  Currently, I serve as a board member of Craven County Schools Partners In Education (PIE).

I am the proud mother of three girls. Sarah, a senior at ECU, Shelby, a sophmore at ECU and Saylor, a freshman at WCHS. My husband and I have been married for twenty-three years. We live in Vanceboro. I love spending time with my family and reading a good book at the beach.
