Free & Reduced Lunch Application

  • Craven County Schools Meal Plan Policy

Elementary school students (grades K-5) will be permitted to charge up to three (3) breakfasts and three (3) lunches.
Middle school students (grade 6-8) will be permitted to charge one (1) breakfast and one (1) lunch.
High school students will not be permitted to charge meals.

Adults (including visitors and staff members) will not be permitted to charge meals.  Individual food items such as ice cream, extra entrees, snack items, etc. cannot be charged at any time.  In addition, there will not be any meal charges allowed for any student during the last two (2) weeks of school.

Once a student has reached the charge limit ($10.05 for full pay elementary students.  $2.10 for reduced elementary students, $3.35 for full pay middle school students and $0.70 for reduced middle school students) and parent contact has been made, an alternative meal consisting of a fruit, roll and milk may be served to the student.

When appropriate, the meal originally selected by the student will be replaced with an alternative meal and staff members will be allowed to explain to the student the reason for the alternative meal.

Free and reduced meal pricing is available at all schools. Applications must be renewed each school year. If a new application has not been completed by October 10th, the student will automatically revert to “paid” status.  All students who qualify for free and reduced pricing are covered through October 10th of the prior school year, unless a new application has been completed. Students who qualify for free and reduced meals are encouraged to eat breakfast daily, as well as order bag lunches for field trips or other school outings. Free and Reduced pricing can also be applied to a student at any time during the year in cases such as short-term family hardship.
