STEAM & Maker Space Media Center at HMS
Welcome to the Havelock Middle Media Center Page. We have transitioned our traditional Media Center into space with areas for different uses. What is a Maker Space? Maker Spaces are designated areas in which teachers, classes, and students can come to design, create, build and complete cross-curricular, hands-on projects in groups or individually. Since our space is transitioning, the HMS Maker Space has a unique opportunity to infuse informational based text and literacy skills and strategies within the projects and lessons to give a depth of knowledge in multiple subject areas.
Come in and create a piece of blackout poetry on a page from a discarded book in the media center.
Recycle items into something new! Your imagination is the limitation in this area. Various tools and supplies are available for your use.
Rotating STEAM challenges are available for you to solve. Are you up for the challenge?
Taste of a Career Lab
Want to explore some career options? The Taste of a Career Lab has projects that explore various careers and may help you decide on a career path you would enjoy. Learn about the different aspects of what you might expect if this was your career. It's a great way to help you decide which high school classes you will need to help prepare you for your career.
Lights, Camera, Action! The HMS Trojan Studio is a room for creating audio and video projects. The wall green-screen area is great for creating life-size projects while the tabletop green-screen areas are great for miniature projects or stop-motion projects. The studio has both Apple and PC editing stations.
