My College Story
Within two weeks of high school graduation I was in college at DeVry Institute of Technology in Atlanta where I hoped to earn my BS in Systems Analysis and Conmputer Programming; however since I had very little self discipline I quickly burned out and then dropped out. Years later I came to the realization that I was in a dead end job that I hated so I decided to do something about it. I enrolled at Coastal Carolina Community College (CCCC) where I finished my A.A. degree and decided to become a high school math teacher. I came to this decision because while at CCCC I realized I was pretty good at math and I liked working with teenageers, as I was one of my churches youth directors. After completing my A.A I transfered to UNC Wilmington where I recieved my B.A in Mathematics with a concentration in Education, and began working as a high school math teacher in Onslow County. While teaching I found that students liked to come to me to discuss thier life and to recieve guidance about important issues in their lives, so after teaching math for 8 years I decided that I would serve my students better as a counselor thus I enriolled in ECU's Counselor Education program where I recieved my M.S. in Counselor Education in 2012. A few months later I applied for a counseling job at NBHS and was offered the job. I've been at NBHS for the last 4 years and I love my job. Sure there are tough days from time to time but I still look forward to coming to work each day and I truly enjoy helping students and staff every day.
